Accommodation

Munnar has no shortage of accommodations and you can find a lot resorts suiting you budget. We stayed at Bird Valley Resort, which is around 20 kms away from the city. The location is simply fabulous, perfect for any nature lover. The first thing we experienced was the pollution free fresh air. Greenery and lots of greenery greeted us everywhere with glimpses of some rare species of birds and butterflies. The hotel has different kind of cottages, each comes with a terrace. The price of the cottages varies roughly between 4500 and 6000. Breakfast is complimentary and the service excellent.

What to See?

In Munnar, sightseeing is limited to tea, coffee and orange plantations but when the sun rays break through the mists and spread a golden hue amidst the breath-taking greenery, you will feel that heaven is right here.

Echo point is a fun place where you can scream your lungs out and revel in the echo of your own voice.

Do not miss the Anaimudi peak, whether you are an animal lover or not. The diverse range of flora and fauna and wild life is bound to leave you spellbound.

The Nilgiri Tahr is a prime attraction of the park and spotting this animal is not easy as it is reclusive and easily scared. But our patience awarded us with the sight of not only this animal but also a herd of wild gaurs. There are also night safaris options available for the adventure seekers.

We also went for boating to lake Periyar, which is another must visit location. The clear waters, the undulating hills and greenery left us spellbound.

If you are looking for a bit of culture, you can go watch Kalaripayattu or Kathakali performances which are held almost every day in the city.

Before leaving the city, we decided to pamper ourselves. After all we were in the birthplace of Ayurveda. There are a number of Auyurvedic centers across Munnar offering various kinds of treatments. We went for Shirodhara and it was a divine experience. It cost us around 2000/2500 bucks each and was totally worth it.

Munnar is perfect for nature lovers looking for tranquillity and peace.
